30/08/1997 : Wales v Romania Mint condition programme from this game played at The Racecourse, Wrexham.
Wales convincingly won this game 70-21.
The experiment of holding an international match in north Wales proved a far better experience for the home side than for the tourists as Wales put the eastern Europeans to the sword. Wales, captained by Gywn Jones, scored a total of eleven tries in front of a capacity 12,000 crowd at Wrexham FC's Racecourse ground. The match was effectively over within the first half an hour as Wales ran in five tries and although Romania refused to lie down, two tries from Ionel Rotaru and Catalin Draguceanu were mere consolation. Allan Bateman scored two tries and Arwel Thomas came close to over-taking Neil Jenkins' record of 24 individual points although he had to settle for just 21, which included two tries.
